At the Conservative Party’s National Excellence Awards Ceremony on Monday, 20th May 2013, the Romford Conservative Association was presented with the prestigious National Excellence Award for Membership.
The Awards are the highest awards the Conservative Party presents to our voluntary party, and they are presented to outstanding associations and longstanding members.
The Party Chairmen, Lord Feldman and the Rt. Hon. Grant Shapps M.P., presented the award to the Association Chairman, Cllr Osman Dervish, and Membership Deputy Chairman, Sandy Tanner.
Emma Pidding, the Chairman of the National Conservative Convention, who is the most senior volunteer in the Conservative Party, was also on hand to congratulate Romford.
Sandy Tanner, Membership Deputy Chairman, said:
“I was incredibly honoured to attend the Conservative Party’s National Excellence Awards Ceremony and accept the Membership Award, alongside Cllr Dervish, on behalf of the Romford Conservative Association.
“During the year of our membership campaign, our membership increased from 300 to over 1100 throughout the Romford constituency.
“We are now one of the largest associations in the country, because we campaign so actively in our local community, stand up for our residents in the Town Hall and Westminster, and have a wide range of active branches.
“We are incredibly grateful to Andrew Rosindell M.P. for being such an active part of the membership campaign and helping renew and rebuild our association at such a vital time.”
After visiting the launch of our Big Ben Supper Club in September last year, Emma Pidding, the Chairman of the National Convention, said:
“I found my visit to Romford most worthwhile. Thanks to all of you for making me feel so welcome and for your very generous hospitality. You are a great team.”
There are a number of active branches in the Romford Conservative Association:
· The Romford Young Conservatives (those aged up to 30) offer an active branch of young activists interested in campaigning, developing a career in politics, and a great social programme;
· The Romford Conservative Women’s Circle has regular meetings and social functions for Conservative women in Romford;
· The Romford Conservative Christian Fellowship builds a bridge between the Conservative Party and the Christian Churches from across Romford, and last year featured a dinner with the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey;
· The Romford Conservative Policy Forum has a number of meetings each year on different policy topics, which have included Europe, immigration, and Scottish independence. Our association member’s views are reported to the national Conservative Policy Forum;
· The Big Ben Supper Club organises suppers and receptions at our Western Road headquarters, where we hear from special guest speakers; and,
· The Conservative Business and Enterprise Club provides a networking opportunity for businesses across Romford with Conservatives.
In addition to the branches, a Conservative Campaign Unit operates in each of our seven wards, and they include our councillors and candidates, and volunteers who deliver a local newsletter, organise local campaigns, and take up issues on behalf of residents.
On Saturday, 1st June 2013, we will be launching our newest branch, the Romford Conservative Commonwealth Association, which will be a branch that brings together all our Conservative supporters from different Commonwealth backgrounds. The launch is at 4 p.m. and further information is available from Cllr Damian White on 07733 460557 or damian.white@hotmail.com.
