The former Archbishop of Canterbury, The Rt Rev’d and Rt Hon. Lord Carey of Clifton, who served between 1991 - 2002 visited Romford on Friday evening as guest speaker for the Harvest Supper of the Romford Conservative Christian Fellowship (C.C.F.).
Lord Carey is visiting Romford following an invitation to do so from Andrew Rosindell M.P.
The event to be held at the Immanuel Church in North Romford, is expected to be attended by over one hundred church members has been organised by the Romford C.C.F. Chairman, Meg Davis.
Andrew Rosindell M.P., said:
“It is a great privilege to welcome Lord Carey, our former Archbishop of Canterbury to Romford. He is one of the foremost Anglican commentators in our country and is a strident defender of our Christian heritage and the institutions which underpin it.
“Earlier this year, Lord Carey rightly criticised five Church of England Bishops in the House of Lords who opposed the Government’s reforms which would place a £26,000 per annum cap on welfare payments to an individual household and said the public debt was a great moral scandal, arguing a welfare system that rewards 'fecklessness and irresponsibility' is wrong. I agree with him completely and look forward to hearing more wise and forthright words from His Grace on Friday evening."
The topic of Lord Carey's speech will be “Without vision, the people perish”.
The Romford Conservative Christian Fellowship is a group of Christians from many different churches throughout Romford. They meet a number of times a year, hear from guest speakers and further the engagement of churches with the Conservative Party, both locally and nationally.
