Appeal To Private Landlords After Spate Of Anti Social Behaviour And Fly Tipping In Hornchurch.

THIS ARTCILE FIRST APPEARED IN THE HAVERING DAILY

A Hornchurch Councillor and candidate are appealing to private landlords to take a closer interest in their properties, after spates of anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping in the Park Lane area.

Last weekend – not for the first time – residents reported a huge fly-tip at the end of Malvern Road in Hornchurch to Councillor Judith Holt and Martin Firmstone.

“Much of this was, apparently, dumped by the tenants of one particular house in Park Lane, whose anti-social behaviour had caused much concern to neighbours, ” explained Councillor Holt. “After my telephoning the landlord, it was confirmed that the tenants were moving out by the end of today (Monday), which has happened and is pleasing.”

“However, there is often fly-tipping and mess at other locations in Park Lane, especially at Alam Court and in the alleyway between numbers 3 and 5 at the Brentwood Road end,” commented Mr Firmstone. “This is especially concerning because, as well as being eyesores for residents, these spots are near a bakery and a pharmacy. Do the landlords or landladies not provide guidelines to tenants for rubbish disposal? Do they check or visit their properties regularly? We realise it is harder for landlords to evict troublesome tenants nowadays and this is something which ought to be dealt with at a nationally. However, vigilance can be carried out at local level.”

“We are so sorry that residents in the Park Lane area have had to tolerate this, added Councillor Holt. “But, it does show the decency of most residents in this part of Hornchurch and how much they care about their neighbourhood. It’s a shame a few choose to spoil it for many.”
